It’s wonderful to see the return of this feel-good classic to Bristol once again. Thandazile Soni as Rafiki fills Bristol Hippodrome and then some with her voice and the young Simba and Nala, played by Jaydon Eastman and Lauren Simpe-Asante, are so joyful to watch. If you’ve only seen the classic 1994 Disney film (or the newer 2019 film) of The Lion King it might be hard to imagine how the Pride Lands of Africa could fit onto a stage, but from that first opening note of ‘The Circle of Life’ you are utterly transported.
